Letters From the Front

St. Thomas, January 6, 1917

Dear People:-

You will find enclosed a postal note for mother for that money that I borrowed. I intended to send it earlier this week but I haven't been out of barracks this last 3 or 4 nights.

We have just come in from our Saturday morning march around the city and we certainly enjoyed it as we haven't been able to get outside this last couple of days because it was so wet. Now however it has frozen up again and you wouldn't want a nicer day than it is now.

Bryant is not back yet and as Steele has been sick this last couple of days worst of this work has fallen on me. To tell the truth I'm getting rather sick of it. I wouldn't mind it so much if I had 2 or 3 stripes but it's hardly worth while when you have only one.

Euart is O.K. again and out of the hospital. I think I am the only one left in the section who hasn't been to the hospital yet and I certainly hope I'll never have to go.

We have a very strict medical examination next week and I expect quite a few will be turned down but I'm not worrying about that. Hope you are all well. Lovingly John
