Letters From the Front

Dated: October 16, 1916

Dear People:-

Have just come in off church parade. We were at Knox this morning and had a rather funny service as the organist evidently forgot about it and we didn't have any organ and so the singing went rather flat.

Yesterday morning we had a little excitement on the route march when the Colonel took sick. It's a wonder he didn't fall off his horse and indeed nearly everyone thought he had fallen off. However they borrowed a passing cutter and got him back to barracks. I noticed that he wasn't on parade today though.

I guess we'll be coming home again on Friday for our monthly leave. We haven't heard anything official about it yet though.

There was a good play put on at the Star Theatre last Wednesday by the St. Thomas Dramatic Society. It was called “The Kerry Gow”. The proceeds were for socks for soldiers and they must have taken in quite a bit of money as they had to give it over again on Thursday night and over 2800 people were there.

We haven't had our medical yet. The band were up and Ab Woods was found medically unfit. He will likely be discharged soon.
