Letters From the Front

Dated: September 14, 1916

London Sept 14, 1916

Dear People:-

     You will have been looking for a letter from me ere this but for some unknown reason probably laziness on my part, I have failed to write before.

     We have just come from the station where we were acting as escort to the 160th (Bruce) Battalion which is leaving for Halifax.  There was a big crowd of people at the station and our job was to keep them back just before the train left in London.

     Since I was home the big guns at Ottawa have changed their minds again and now they say we are going to stay in London all winter or at least part of the winter.

     We haven’t been told anything about going into barracks yet and it will likely be about 2 weeks before we move.

     Last Thursday was a wet day in camp and we spent most of the days in our tents where we passed away the time playing cards, reading and sleeping.

     We didn’t get much sleep last Monday night.  The special train leaving Guelph was 3 hours late and we didn’t get into London until 2 A.M.  It was 3 o’clock by the time we got to bed and reveille sounded at 6 so that left us three hours sleep.

     Am enclosing a money order for 5 dollars and will try to send home about 15 at the end of the month.

     There was a draft from the army Medical Corps went away last Wednesday.  I don’t know whether Mr. Robertson’s brother was with it but probably he was.

     Well this letter is using up a lot of paper even although there isn’t much in it so will close now
