The “Fighting Fourth”

The return home of a Midland soldier from the front was referred to by an exchange last week, which stated that the young man was the only one of fifty-two Midlanders who was still fit for service. These young men were members of the original 4th Battallion, and the returned member says that less ninety of the men composing the 4th remain on the fighting line. The 4th has seen a terrific amount of fighting in Belgium and France, and are said to have been dubbed the "Fighting Fourth" by the English Tommies. New Liskeard has at least one representative in this Brigade, in the person of Enos Grant, son of a townsman, and from whom his father heard only last week, so it is believed that the Liskeard private is still doing his best for the Old Fourth.
