The Third Contingent

Instructions have been received from Col. McKee, of the 97^th Regiment to the effect that names are to be received from all points tributary to New Liskeard, of volunteers for the Third Contingent, which it is understood will be organized in the very near future. Lieut. Magladery will receive names of those wishing to join this contingent, and in his absence applicants may register with A.E. Stephenson, at the Speaker Office. The greatest cars will be exercised in the acceptance of candidates for places in the new Regiment, and only those who are physically fit are asked to register. We believe the idea is to raise a complete regiment in New Ontario, and the probability is that Col. McKee will be the officer commanding. The general impression appears to prevail that many Canadian Regiments will yet see active service at the front, before present hostilities are ended. Any who think this is to be the occasion of a big holiday should disabuse their minds of this idea at once, as the department is rigidly enforcing all the military orders, fully expecting that the Canadians will yet have to take their places side by side with Great Britain's regulars in the titanic struggle for British liberty which is now going on.
