Antonio Viau was born at Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka, Quebec, on 13 January 1896. A single Roman Catholic farmer living at Sainte-Cécile, Quebec, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and entered Canadian service in August 1918 as Private 3171901 with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. His service was confined to Canada. He was discharged at Montreal on 1 February 1919 on demobilization.
