Elzear Wathier was born at Saint-Clet, Quebec, on 8 February 1892. A single Roman Catholic bank clerk living at Beauharnois, he entered the Canadian Expeditionary Force under the Military Service Act at Montreal on 27 November 1917 as Private 3155067 with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. He later attained the rank of Sergeant and served with the Canadian Army Pay Corps. His service was confined to Canada. He was discharged at Montreal on 25 October 1919.

Elzear Wathier was born at Saint-Clet, Quebec, on 8 February 1892. At recruitment he was single, Roman Catholic, a bank clerk, and residing at Beauharnois, Quebec. His father Ovide Wathier of Saint-Clet was next of kin. He had no previous military or naval service. The initial Medical History Sheet records 5 ft 6½ in, 128 lb, chest 32–35 in, dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair, good development and category A2. Leaving-service examinations record a flat left foot/flat feet that existed before enlistment, was not painful, and was not aggravated by military service.

Military Service Act recruit who enlisted at Montreal on 27 November 1917 as Private 3155067 with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. He served entirely in Canada. He was promoted acting Sergeant in the Paymaster's Office effective 20 September 1918. He was struck off strength on transfer to the Canadian Army Pay Corps, 4th Detachment, on 21 March 1919 and taken on strength of that detachment on 1 April 1919. He was struck off strength of the 4th Detachment on 25 October 1919 and discharged at Montreal the same day for demobilization under Routine Order 1420.
