Service Biography

Joseph Wilfrid Snyder was born at St-Anicet, Quebec, on 2 February 1896. An iron worker living in Montreal, he enlisted there on 8 March 1916 after four years of previous service in the United States militia. He served in Canada as Private 847574 with the 150th Overseas Battalion, Canadian Mounted Rifles. A Medical Board found him medically unfit because of pre-existing valvular heart disease, and he was discharged at Montreal on 15 July 1916.

Notes

At enlistment Snyder was an iron worker, single and Roman Catholic, living at 110 Fullum Street, Montreal. He named his brother Fred Snyder of Bombay, New York, as next of kin. His attestation records an operation scar below the left shoulder. The Medical History Sheet records a weight of 129 lb and chest measurements of 33 in minimum and 36½ in maximum.
