A single Roman Catholic butcher living at Maskinonge, Quebec, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and enrolled at Quebec on 23 July 1918 as Private 3384377 with the 3rd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served in Canada and was struck off strength on return to the Registrar's records on 6 August 1918 and discharged on demobilization.

He had a medium complexion, blue eyes and the recruit form records hazel hair. A left varicocele was noted. He was classified Category B2.
