Benjamin Harold Pennington was born at Franklin Centre, Quebec, on 11 May 1895. A single Methodist farmer living in the Township of Franklin, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Montreal on 19 July 1918 as Private 3088057. He transferred to the Canadian Engineers the same day and served at the Engineer Training Depot at St. Johns, Quebec, later being recorded as a Sapper. He was on farm leave during the demobilization period and was discharged at St. Johns on 17 January 1919 on demobilization.
