After artillery holding units and an attachment to 209 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Training Regiment at Bordon, he returned to the 2nd Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment in October. He progressed through Bombardier and Sergeant and undertook officer cadet training in Britain during 1943. His instructors praised his effort and leadership. Commissioned Lieutenant on 12 January 1944, he returned to the 2nd Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment in March and served as a section commander. He sailed from Britain on 1 August 1944 and landed in France on 5 August, serving in northwest Europe, including France, Belgium and Germany. He received a Certificate for Good Service from the Commander-in-Chief, 21 Army Group, and was Mentioned in Despatches for gallant and distinguished service in northwest Europe. He planned to rejoin his former employer as a salesman and gave his address as 490 Strathcona Avenue, Westmount.
