Albert Edward Amos was born at Valleyfield, Quebec, on 18 September 1924. He enrolled in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve at Montreal on 17 February 1943 and entered active service on 22 March. He served at sea and overseas, including aboard HMCS Regina, and was listed as a survivor after the ship was lost in August 1944. Rated Able Seaman from 22 March 1944, he later served in HMCS Lethbridge before being demobilized at Montreal on 22 August 1945. His wartime awards record lists the 1939-45 Star, “France G. & Clasp,” the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45.

Notes
Before enlistment he had completed Grade 7 and worked as an electrical apprentice for Defence Industries Limited at Nitro, Quebec. A 1945 rehabilitation interview recorded earlier farm work and recommended further on-the-job electrical training after discharge. Postwar records in the file show service with 61st Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery from 1951, promotion to Staff Sergeant in 1952, award of the Coronation Medal in 1953, and re-engagement in 1954. His son Steven Edward was born 14 October 1951.

Word has been received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Amos, of 100 Salaberry Street, Valleyfleld, Que., that A/8 A. E. Amos is a survivor of the sunken Corvette “Regina”. The Regina was sunk off the Normandy coast while convoying supplies to the Allled Forces in France. A/S Amos is well except for a few minor injuries and his family is expecting him home for a well deserved leave shortly. He joined the R.C.N.V.R. in March, 1941, and train- ed at Montreal, Deepbrook and Halifax and served on H.M.CS. Tennel and was later transferred to H.M.C.- 8. Regina. Serving with the forces is his twin brother. LAC. Buddy Amos, with the R.C.A.P.; Pte. Nelson Amos in France, Cpl. George Amos with the United States Army in Italy.
