William George Merrill Winter of Ormstown, Quebec, enlisted at Montreal on 15 September 1939 and served as a Signalman with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. His service included Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and Northwest Europe; he landed in France on 25 February 1945. He was discharged at Montreal South on 6 August 1945 after nearly six years of service. His medal entitlement included the 1939–45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal 1939–45.
