Service Biography
Hugh Dennis Walsh was born on 24 February 1913 at Huntingdon, Quebec. A labourer with four years of public schooling, he enlisted in the Canadian Active Service Force at Montreal South on 9 June 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. After joining 1st Bridge Company at Mont Bruno, he was appointed Acting Lance Corporal in August 1941. He embarked from Halifax in November 1941, disembarked at Liverpool, and served in England, including with 85th Canadian Bridge Company. During his overseas service Walsh developed recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms and was hospitalized; he reverted to Private on admission to hospital in April 1942. Medical Boards ultimately diagnosed duodenal ulcer and found him unfit for continued military service. He returned to Canada in June 1942 and, after further investigation at St. Anne's Military Hospital, was medically discharged at Montreal South on 11 August 1942 as unable to meet the required military physical standards. Walsh died on 1 November 1981.
