Albert Wright was born at Burnley, England, on 10 March 1899. A single Roman Catholic moulder living at Valleyfield, Quebec, he attested voluntarily at Montreal on 14 May 1917 as Sapper 2005834 in the Canadian Engineers. He served in Canada and was hospitalized in 1917 for mumps, tonsillitis and scabies. He returned to duty after each illness and was discharged from the Canadian Engineer Training Depot at St. Johns, Quebec, on 19 September 1918 in consequence of minority.
