Research Notes
Final QA complete. Donat Lemieux was an MSA conscript, Private 3167473, 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. The Medical History Sheet explicitly records that he joined on 23 August 1918 at Montreal, and his military will was executed the same day. The Last Pay Certificate also contains a 17-8-18 notation, but the surviving file does not explicitly identify what that date represents; it is therefore preserved as an unexplained administrative/enlistment-related notation and is not substituted for the documented joined date. The Last Pay Certificate records that Lemieux failed to report on 26 March 1919. The casualty form records him 'S.O.S. DESERTER AS FROM 15.4.19' under D.O. 112, and the pay certificate likewise identifies him as a deserter. Under the canonical CWVMP rule, the effected discharge for illegal absence/desertion is dischargeType 4/CM. No overseas service, POW event, combat, hospitalization, promotion, or explicit medal award is supported by the surviving 14-page file.
