Research Notes
Final QA complete. Stanisclas Lemieux, Private 3172303, was born 28 January 1895 at Saint-Chrysostome, Quebec. He was a single Roman Catholic farmer; his father Moise Lemieux of Saint-Chrysostome was next of kin; the recruit form records that he was not in the Active Militia and had no previous military or naval service. He was drafted under the Military Service Act. Three records independently support 11 November 1917 as the attestation/enlistment date at Montreal: the recruit declaration, the index card, and the Last Pay Certificate. The later 20 August 1918 date has a different documentary function: the casualty form states enlisted/service reckons from 20-8-18, and the Medical History Sheet records that he joined at Montreal on 20 August 1918. The workbook therefore preserves 11 November 1917 as enlistment/attestation and 20 August 1918 as the reporting/joining date from which active service reckoned. His medical examination on 20 August recorded age 23 years 6 months, height 5 ft 6 in, weight 144 lb, chest 33-37 in, medium complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, good physical development, Category A2, with 'Teeth decay' noted under minor defects. He served in Canada with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. Discharge evidence agrees on 6 February 1919: the index card records SOS for 'Demob'; the Last Pay Certificate records discharge on that date for 'Farmer's Leave' under R.O. 1328; and the demobilization paperwork was completed on 6 February. Farmer's Leave is retained as source wording within a normal demobilization discharge. No overseas service, hospital admission, POW event, promotion, combat event, disciplinary event, or explicit medal award is supported by the surviving 20-page file.
