During this CEF period he transferred to COTC Laval in early October, was promoted Sergeant on 29 October, transferred to the 3rd Tank Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps in November, and was taken on strength there as Sergeant on 13 November. Research Notes
Prior-service wording is explicit but undated: p.1 and p.5 state 'R.F.C. 7 mos. Pilot' and 'Lieut. COTC'. These are treated as genuine prior military experience, but the file does not support start/end dates or a specific RFC unit, so none are inferred. The CEF casualty summary on p.6 is interpreted with the medical sheet: T.O.S. entry recorded 1 Oct effective from 25 Sep; transfer to COTC Laval dated 4 Oct on p.9; another T.O.S. entry 5 Oct; promoted Sergeant 29 Oct; transfer toward 3rd Tank Battalion under Part II D.O. 178 dated 8 Nov with R.O. 2019 dated 12 Nov; T.O.S. 3rd Tank Battalion as Sergeant 13 Nov; S.O.S. 26 Nov under R.O. 1328. The precise formation attached to the 25 Sep/1 Oct T.O.S. entry is not explicit enough to create a separate unit row.
