A single Roman Catholic flour mill worker, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and entered Canadian Expeditionary Force service at Montreal on 19 August 1918 as Private 3172149 with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. He served in Canada and was hospitalized with influenza in October 1918. He was discharged at Montreal on 6 December 1918 on demobilization while classified in medical Category B2.
