Research Notes

Final QA complete. Lionel Lemieux, Private 3165757, was drafted under the Military Service Act. The recruit form is dated Montreal 8 July 1918, the index card records that he attested at Montreal on 8 July 1918, and the casualty form states that his service reckons from 8 July 1918. The Medical History Sheet documents a later medical examination at Montreal on 21 August 1918, Category C, with enlarged lymphoid tissue noted, and records that he joined and was transferred to the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment on that date. The workbook therefore retains 8 July as the enlistment/attestation date and 21 August as the medical/joining/unit date rather than forcing the two dates into one event. The casualty form records him struck off strength on return to the Registrar's Records at Montreal effective 20 September 1918. Proceedings on Discharge independently give Montreal, 20 September 1918, reason Demobilization. The 23 April 1919 entry is an administrative confirmation of that discharge, not a second discharge date. The father/next of kin is recorded as 'Thefile Lemieux' in the surviving file; that source spelling is preserved. No overseas service, hospital admission, POW event, promotion, combat event, disciplinary event, or explicit medal award is supported by the surviving 14-page file.
