A single Roman Catholic farmer, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and joined the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment, at Montreal on 21 August 1918 as Private 3165767. He served in Canada. In January 1919 he was recorded as a deserter, and his final striking-off-strength date was 12 February 1919.
