Service Biography

Ovila Laplante was born at Valleyfield, Quebec, on 30 April 1888. A married clothes presser, he attested at Valleyfield on 17 April 1916 and joined the 163rd Battalion (French Canadian), Canadian Expeditionary Force, as Private 661013. His wife, Mathilda Laplante, was his next of kin. Laplante served in Canada and was discharged at Montreal on 13 May 1916 after being found medically unfit by a Standing Medical Board.

Notes

At enlistment he was 5 ft 6 in, about 165 lb, with a maximum chest measurement of 39 in, dark complexion, grey eyes and brown hair. The medical history sheet records physical development as fair and notes a slight flat-foot defect.

Attested at Valleyfield on 17 April 1916 and taken on strength of the 163rd Battalion (French Canadian), C.E.F., as Private 661013. His service was in Canada. He was discharged at Montreal on 13 May 1916 as medically unfit, well before the battalion sailed on 27 November 1916.
