Additional Service Notes

Enlisted at Valleyfield on 23 March 1916 with the 163rd Battalion, C.E.F.; served in England and France and later with 53 Company, Canadian Forestry Corps. Returned to Canada for demobilization and was discharged at Montreal on 19 March 1919.

Additional Next of Kin Notes

Attestation names father Louis Leboeuf of Valleyfield as next of kin. Later overseas family and pay records identify his wife as Philomene Gauthier Leboeuf of Valleyfield. The family form lists four children: Julia (14), Paul (11), Amelienne (10) and George (6). It states that his father was deceased and his mother was living and widowed, and gives her name as 'Mme Alphonse Lavoer Leboeuf', Valleyfield, Quebec. The mother's name is preserved exactly as typed on the source form rather than normalized or interpreted.

Research Notes

Date of birth reconciled as 30 April 1878: the attestation and index card agree, and the March 1919 discharge documents give age 40; the 30 April 1874 date on the leaving-service medical form is an isolated conflict. Overseas service included the 10th Canadian Reserve Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regimental Depot, Canadian Forestry Corps Base Depot and 53 Company C.F.C. He served in France. The casualty forms record admission to hospital in late December 1917 and subsequent treatment in the Marseilles area for V.D.S.; by 1 April 1918 he was discharged to duty. Discipline entries include three extra fatigues in August 1917 for absence from duty, a January 1918 absence from working parade, five days Field Punishment No. 2 in November 1918 for absence without leave, and 28 days Field Punishment No. 2 in December 1918 for absence from 22:00 on 8 Dec to 20:30 on 10 Dec 1918 (46 hours 30 minutes), with two days' pay forfeited. Family records identify his wife Philomene Gauthier Leboeuf and four children. DVA later recorded his death on 21 October 1961 at Ste. Anne's Hospital, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec.
