Service Biography

William Thomas Rice was born at Ormstown, Quebec, on 8 February 1895. A farmer, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and reported at Montreal on 17 July 1918 as Private 3087692 with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment. He became illegally absent and was subsequently struck off strength effective 18 July 1918, the date later established through a Court of Inquiry and administrative correction of his casualty record.

Drafted under the Military Service Act and reported at Montreal on 17 July 1918 as Private 3087692 with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment. He was medically examined and placed Category A2. He became illegally absent the following day. The casualty record was later reconstructed: an earlier S.O.S. entry was cancelled in March 1919, and following a Court of Inquiry dated 7 March 1919 he was struck off strength retrospectively effective 18 July 1918 as illegally absent.
