Service Biography

William Rutherford was born at Ormstown, Quebec, on 28 January 1896. A single Presbyterian farmer, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and entered Canadian Expeditionary Force service at Montreal on 9 July 1918 as Private 3086346 with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment. He was later transferred to the Canadian Engineers and served as a sapper at the Engineer Training Depot, St. Johns, Quebec. Rutherford served in Canada and was discharged on demobilization on 6 January 1919.

1918-12-01 — Furlough recorded under D.O. 315 dated 11 November 1918.
1918-12-23 — Demobilization instruction issued directing Rutherford to report by 6 January 1919 for discharge.

1919-01-06 — Struck off strength and discharged on demobilization.

Notes

Rutherford was a single Presbyterian farmer from Ormstown, Quebec. His father Thomas Rutherford of the same address was next of kin. The Medical History Sheet recorded Category A2, good physical development, height 5 ft 3 in, weight 140 lb, and chest 33–37 in.
