A single Church of England farmer, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and reported at Montreal on 17 July 1918 as Private 3087698 with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force. His medical examination classified him Category E. Sadler served in Canada and was struck off strength on return to the Registrar's Records effective 17 August 1918.
