A single farmer living at Maxcombe, Saskatchewan, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and entered Canadian Expeditionary Force service at Regina on 6 July 1918 as Private 3354440 with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Saskatchewan Regiment. He was medically classified Category B2 and served in Canada. Sadler was struck off strength on transfer to the Registrar's Records and discharged at Regina on 11 August 1918.
