Labourer; Roman Catholic. Born at Ormstown, Quebec. The 1917 medical examination recorded height 5 ft 7½ in, weight 135 lb, chest 30–33 in, good physical development and a scar on the outer side of the left leg. The 1916 medical-board record gives a detailed pre-service condition involving underdeveloped calf muscles and multiple adherent scars.
Additional Service Notes
The file documents two CEF enlistments by the same man. Antoine Laviolette first enlisted at Valleyfield, Quebec, on 2 March 1916 as Private 243042, 206th Battalion. A medical board at Valcartier Camp Hospital on 12 June 1916 found him medically unfit because of pre-existing poor development of the calf muscles and multiple adherent scars; the condition was not attributed to or aggravated by service. His casualty form records him struck off strength medically unfit at Valcartier on 26 June 1916. He enlisted again on 24 May 1917 as Private 2158553 with the Forestry Reinforcing Draft. He was transferred from the Forestry Reinforcing Draft to the Special Service Battalion, No. 3 Company, at Kingston effective 21 June 1917. The casualty form records him struck off strength as a deserter on 22 September 1917. The 1917 attestation also records four months' previous service with the 69th Regiment.
Additional Next of Kin Notes
By the 1917 enlistment Antoine Laviolette's wife, Yvonne Laviolette of Cornwall, Ontario, was his next of kin. The family form records one son, Joseph Edmond Laviolette, aged one month in May 1917. His mother, Emma Laviolette, was living at Cornwall; his father was recorded as deceased.
