Enlisted as a private into the P.P.C.L.I., Wounded at Vimy Ridge, promoted from the ranks

Original overseas unit 4th University Company. Joined the P.P.C.L.I. in the field May 14, 1916. Wounded April 10, 1917. Struck off strength April 15, 1917. Invalided owing to sickness or wounds. Later became a Lieutenant.
